POLICY REVIEW

The Chamber regularly reviews various Laws, Regulations, other official notifications issued by the State and Central Government. The details are thereafter communicated to its members by way of circulars, newsletters etc. The Chamber also informs and educates its members about their basic duties and need for proper compliance of laws and legislations. It is also the link between the Textile Sector and various relevant departments of the State, Central Government and other inter-related institutions. Additionally it provides feedback / reactions to various policy-making bodies regarding relevant changes, timely and corrective measures for healthy functioning of the markets. The Chamber's observations are often publicized through Print and Electronic Media.

INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMES

The Chamber organizes various Seminars and Interactive meetings on several / related issues. Leading personalities from the State and Central Government, Legal, Technical experts are often invited for open discussions.  The historic Silver Jubilee function of COTTI was inaugurated and addressed by Late Gyani Jail Singh, the then President of India . The Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Textile Minister, Defence Minister, other Union / State Ministers including the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had also visited the Chamber to address its members.

CHAMBER'S REPRESENTATION & AFFILIATIONS

Rewarding the potential of the Chamber the Government has appointed the Chamber's representatives to various committees. Viz. Working Group to formulate a National Fiber Policy, Sub Group on Cotton National Fiber Policy., Regional Advisory Committees of Central Excise Department, Textiles Committee, and a statutory body under Ministry of Textiles has appointed the Chamber as Tier II partners for implementing a project “Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalization in  India ”. The project intends to facilitate trade related capacity building of stakeholders of the textiles and clothing sector. Ministry of Commerce, United Nations and DFID, UK  are supporting the project. The President of the Chamber has been appointed as a Member of State Level Co-ordination& Monitoring Committee for Handloom and Textile Sector constituted by the Govt. of West Bengal.

The chamber is a member of (i) The Power loom Development & Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) under the Ministry of Textiles Government of India and (ii)Federation of Traders Organization of West Bengal (FTO).

WELFARE MANAGEMENT

The Chamber has representatives on various Committees of the Central and State Government.  It propagates healthy trade unionism through Trade Coordination Committee, which aptly manages agreements between Management and Trade Unions based on the underlying principles of fair play and justice. On the social front, the Chamber plays an active role in providing relief and services to those affected by natural calamities and other hazards.
